CNS (was NERDC)
I was a Senior Systems Programmer for the Computing and Networking Services department at the University of Florida. CNS was formerly known as the Northeast Regional Data Center (NERDC), and was a support organization for the State University System of Florida. Since being reorganized, the primary focus shifted to customers internal to the University. I had the role of technical manager for the Open Systems Group. The OSG is responsible for the basic open-access computing services for the University. In the past, most of these services ran on an IBM RS/6000 SP2 Parallel Computer. This is the same type of machine as IBM’s “Deep Blue” entry into the World Chess Champonships. We migrated almost everything to a pair of IBM p5 570 systems before I moved on. I think they’re now (some years later) making the transition to a mostly-Linux infrastructure.
