Mainline

In August of 2008 I was hired by Mainline Information Systems as an Infrastructure Architect for the Power Systems brand. Mainline is a large IBM Business Partner, with interests in the United States, Canada and Mexico. They sell basically anything that IBM makes, plus items from additional strategic partners such as Oracle, Brocade, Cisco, and Sybase.

I provide pre- and post-sales support for many IBM products and generalized architecture services for a medium-sized gaggle of Account Executives. Additionally, I’m on a 5 person team specializing in benchmarks and performance tuning.

Professional Services are still part of the picture, though now I’m not responsible for my own business – which is both positive and negative. Mainline’s engineers and architects get a sort-of “right of first refusal” for services we help to sell. So custoemrs with whom I have a close relationship, or that are relatively close to my home, can still have that personal touch. Otherwise, one of the extremely competent services-only engineers will fulfill the SOW.
